Level 1 Umpiring Course at Taunton

Taunton Vale HC are looking to get a L1 Umpiring Course organised for Sunday 3rd December from 9am – 5pm.  England Hockey have informed Taunton Vale that there is someone available to deliver the course.  If you would like to be considered for this course click on this link Umpiring Course at Taunton Vale to register your interest and then once the course goes live on the internet on the England Hockey website, Taunton Vale HC can get you to the front of the queue.

Yeovil & Sherborne Hockey Club is fortunate to have a strong cadre of umpires, but is always looking for more people (current players, ex-players, parents … anyone!) to qualify and umpire both senior and junior matches.  All umpiring courses are run locally by England Hockey, and qualification involves doing an online rules test; attending a one day course; and then being assessed after receiving some one-to-one coaching from the Club’s own Level 1 coaches.  If you would like to know anymore please speak to Leanne Lambert, Barrie Izard, Keith Walters or Debs Gemmell; the Club will consider re-imbursing the course fee for anyone who goes on to qualify and umpire regularly for the Club.

Level 1 Umpiring courses are booked via the England Hockey website Find A Course page:  Bookings must be made in the name of the participant – bookings cannot be made on behalf of someone else.  Guidance for those having trouble with the booking process is available at the link above.

Alternate Senior Playing Shirt

The Club Management Committee have approved the alternate – KitzUK – version of the Senior Playing Shirt, which should be available to order from KitzUK soon.  All players in senior teams (including juniors playing in senior teams) should now be wearing the new shirt – either the TK version or the new KitzUK one – that was introduced at the start of last season (with white numerals on the back).

Remember that the Membership Secretary now controls the issue of shirt numbers for both men and ladies (including juniors playing in senior teams), so if you are about to purchase a playing shirt (either the TK version or the KitzUK one) it may be worthwhile checking your number:  When you purchase your shirt you will be asked for your number.  The shirt numbering policy is to now re-use ‘dormant’ numbers (belonging to players who have not been registered for more than two seasons or are known to have left the Club) to ensure that the lowest numbers are used whenever possible and the use of 3-digit numbers is avoided if at all possible:  If you haven’t played for the Club for a season or two you may well be given a different number to the one you had previously.   If you are in any doubt please confirm your number with the Membership Secretary.

Additional Source of Club Clothing

As announced at the AGM a new range of Club clothing has been made available by KitzUK from their outlet on our ‘doorstep’ in Sherborne.  The full range may be viewed on-line via the link under “Clothing and Equipment Purchases” on the Club Kit – Seniors or Academy Kit webpages on this website.  Purchases may be made on-line, or by visiting KitzUK in person in Sherborne – full details on the kit webpages and KitzUK’s website.

In-line with the Club’s policy of minimising costs and providing members with flexibility in making purchases and maintaining security of supply, all existing playing clothing – with the exception of junior playing shirts (see below) – is compatible with that supplied by KitzUK and players should not need to make any new purchases.

Senior Playing Shirts. In due course an alternative senior playing shirt – to precisely match the style of the existing one – will be produced once the design has been approved. The TK manufactured playing shirt are available from Sports of Bond Street in Yeovil; and shorts, skorts and socks from other suppliers’ such as TK and Grays may, of course, continue to be worn by members.

Academy Playing Shirts. To mark the launch of the Club’s new Junior Academy a new design of Academy playing shirts has been created and will be available immediately. Existing shorts, skorts and socks from other suppliers’ such as TK and Grays may continue to be worn by juniors.
