New Rules – Red Cards

There are no new rules for the start of this season (hooray), however, there has been a change (and, therefore, clarification) to the awarding of red cards.  The regulations are such that from the start of the 2016/17 season a red card should be awarded instead of a second yellow for the same offence, by the same player, during a match.  However, under these circumstances the red card is just for the rest of the match (i.e. player cannot take part in the remainder of the match and must leave the pitch) and does not result in an automatic 16 day ban.  A “straight red” must still be awarded for serious, intentional misbehaviour towards another player or the umpire(s) (verbal/physical abuse) and this will still result in an automatic 16 day ban.  For more information go to Updated Red Card Regulations – England Hockey.

New Playing Shirts

Historically we change our shirts (but not our shorts/skirts and socks) every 6 or 7 years. The current shirt has never been universally popular and one or two are showing signs of wear; the management committee considered it sensible to proactively pursue a replacement at this time. Following-on from the AGM in May 2016, where new playing shirts were displayed, it has been decided that the club should move to a new style as produced by TK, and the order has now been placed. The shirts (men’s sample shown below) will be a similar colour to those we currently wear, but with white inserts; the ladies shirts are cut to suit and have no buttons to the v-collar. The material is a new breathable hockey shirt style. Numbers will be in white and are slimmer and thinner to enable the full range to be clearly and easily applied.

The shirts will cost £25 each and they will be available from Tony Pryce Sports early-to-mid September (an e-mail will be sent out to members when they are in stock). The purchasing process will be as normal – direct from Tony Pryce: Visit the shop, try a shirt for size, confirm your club number with staff and they will apply the number either while you wait, or you can return later to collect it.

It is IMPORTANT that you retain the shirt number you already have, or are given in the interim period, and do not attempt to change it: The numbers are used for league registration purposes and as such your number is unique to you. If you have any issues with your number then please contact Keith Walters, Director of Hockey direct (07815 906481), and please do not change what you have been given when collecting/purchasing your new shirt.

As on previous occasions there will be a transition period where there will be a mix of current and new style shirts on the pitch, but it is hoped that members will take the opportunity to purchase a new shirt as soon as possible.
