Do you enjoy playing hockey but would like to widen your knowledge on delivering the game? Then how about taking your Level 1 Hockey Coaching Course? The England Hockey West Office have organised some courses in the South West in September and October of this year:
Bristol: 22nd September, 25th September, 2nd October 2011
Sherborne: 30th September, 2nd October, 9th October 2011
Plymouth: 24th October, 27th October, 28th October 2011
If you are interested in attending one of these courses please contact Jo McDermid by e-mail or 01749 813301 to discuss the course details and how to apply. Y&SHC has in place some schemes for part or sometimes full re-imbursement of the course costs. Each application for re-imbursement is assessed individually and is based on time given back to the Club usually in the form of coaching. The individual will not normally receive any re-imbursement until they have fulfilled their Club duties.
Y&SHC need volunteers to help out with junior coaching sessions on either Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am at Strike Soccer, Yeovil or Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at The Gryphon School, Sherborne.
All sessions will be led and planned by a Level 2 coach, your role will be, where needed, to help the juniors carry out the drills they are shown to enable them to develop their skills. It is a really rewarding role especially when you see those juniors progress in their ability to play hockey.
The training sessions on Thursday evenings will run from 1st September 2011 – 15th December 2011 and 5th January 2012 – 29th March 2012.
The training session on Saturday mornings will run from 3rd September 2011 – 10th December 2011 and 7th January 2012 – 31st March 2012.
If you are able to give time to the Club, even if it is only for one coaching session it would be of great help, please contact Jo McDermid by e-mail or 01749 813301.
Voting for the above has been in favour of both the addition of an area league (East) and the addition of a regional league (Petroc) for the coming season.
Yeovil & Sherborne Ladies Veterans have won the Team Bath Veterans challenge with 4 straight victories. The club have a very strong veterans team with some of the players being amongst the fittest in the club.
Of course it does help having 3 West of England Masters in the squad with Debs Gemmell, Su Waller and Kerry Mullen all having recently been selected to represent the West of England in the national competition in Cannock during June.
The veterans games saw victories over Lydney and West Wilts in the pool matches and then a semi final victory after penalties with the hosts Bath Buccs.
The final was a re run against West Wilts which was highly competitive and took the one goal to settle the game.
Open play scorers at the weekend were Sadie Watson (4), Su Waller, Sarah Newton and Debs Gemmell – as well as a few penalties.
This is a great achievement and the veterans were quite naturally very pleased with the results.
