The Ladies 1s had their last home game of the first half of the season on Saturday versus Blandford and Sturminster Newton who have yet to score a point this season. However the Ladies were taking no chances and knew that this encounter would not be a simple one.  Blandford have always stumped up quite a fight against Yeovil and Sherborne and results have jostled between them for the victory.  And a battle it was right from the off!  Once again Y&S went out from the starting whistle like a bullet however Blandford did well to soak up a lot of pressure early on.  It took the best part of 20 minutes before Y&S were able to break the deadlock and that was through a penalty stroke that was taken and converted by Saskia Vermeer.  That was how the result stayed until the end of the first half, even though Y&S continued to press and attack and counter attack, every effort dismissed by the Blandford defence.
The second half was much the same of pressing and counter attacking however Y&S did start to put some daylight between them and their opponents first with a further Vermeer goal. The striker finished from close range after an initial Sophie Cahill strike from a short corner. About 10 minutes later Debs Gemmell took a quick 16 yard hit out to Phylli Cligg who found Sadie Watson in space before releasing Georgie Belt who swept the ball into the path of a sprinting Kate Baker who one touched it passed the Blandford keeper.  Y&S would have liked more however today was not their day as many strikes were saved well by the Blandford keeper, they look forward to travelling to Exeter on Saturday to play Exe 2s.  Players’ Player was awarded to Millie Stevens who worked tirelessly up and down the left hand side of the pitch.
