For their biggest test so far the Ladies travelled down to Bournemouth to play Premier 1 relegated Bournemouth 1st XI.   They were a young spirited side that  pressurised the Yeovil and Sherborne ladies right from the very first centre pass!  Y&S  soaked up this pressure well and were soon on the counter attack. On a pitch with a slight elevation, Y&S had to work hard uphill in the first half and with a number of chances they just could not break the deadlock.  It was Bournemouth who were to earn the first spoils with a well worked short corner that they tipped in from close range.  Y&S went into the half time break 1-0 down, although upbeat as they had looked like scoring. The Bournemouth defence held firm and kept out the visitors in the main, the best chance for Y&S came through Sadie Watson when she slipped the ball across the open goalmouth to a diving Pippa Parker on the far post, unfortunately the ball just tipped outside of the goalpost.
In the second half, it was much the same pressure from both teams. Perhaps unfairly a flick was awarded against Y&S even though the defender was going away from goal and was outside the post. The Bournemouth attacker  spectacularly converted past Becky Frater even though she was agile dived the correct way.  Y&S did not give up and with 5 minutes left on the clock converted a short corner through Saskia Vermeer and fought hard to the final whistle whilst Bournemouth just tried to keep ball and watch the clock run down. A draw would have been a fairer result however it was not to be and Bournemouth tip Yeovil now at the top of the league as Y&S sit second on 9 points.
Players’ Player was given to Becky Frater for her amazing saves and brilliance in goal and Y&S move on to play Newquay at home next Saturday.
