With a late push back in Taunton on Saturday, Yeovil and Sherborne Ladies 2’s had plenty of time to talk tactics and plan their new attacking formation. But despite Y&S getting the game underway it was Taunton who quickly took possession, putting Y&S under pressure in the first ten minutes.
Y&S’s defence held strong to deny Taunton any serious attempt on goal and used the width to start building their counter attack from the baseline.
Y&S’s midfield used good linking passes, picking out the strikers who were stretching Tauton’s defence well, creating plenty of space up front. Consistent pressure in Taunton’s own half rewarded Y&S with a number of penalty corners but were unable to find the net until a set play from Tracy Rose from the found Leanna McFarlane who put Y&S 1-0 ahead.
Taunton showed their resilience in response with a quick goal to bring the score level but it was Y&S who continued to dominate the play in the first half, punishing Taunton with another goal from Leanna McFarlane to put Y&S in the lead 2-1 before half time.
The state of play continued in the second half with Y&S driving hard down the right hand side with more fast action from Ella Wright who found Melanie Bredow in the circle to make the score 3-1.l
Penalty corners dominated the second half but Y&S struggled to convert again from these set plays but a third goal from Leanna McFarlane to complete her hat trick put Y&S 4-1 ahead.
Undeterred, Taunton fought back in the final minutes to find the net once more before the whistle, ending the game 4-2.
Special mention goes to Ella Wright who was awarded Players’ Player for another week.
