This week Yeovil & Sherborne Ladies 2’s faced Burnham on Sea at home, delighting spectators with yet another end-to-end game.
Burnham started the game strong, using an attacking push-back to break quickly and put Y&S under pressure. Their tactic worked, taking a 1-0 lead in the first five minutes.
Y&S responded to the challenge with a quick goal from Sue Waller, putting the score level at 1-1 within 10 minutes. Another goal from Waller 10 minutes later put the visitors behind for the first time but the lead didn’t last long after another break from Burnham brought the score level again at 2-2.
Y&S settled in to a familiar and prolonged attacking phase, forcing Burnham’s defence to concede a number of short corners. With the play firmly in Burnham’s defensive half Y&S were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty flick, which was neatly placed by Waller to complete her hat trick and push Y&S to a 3-2 lead.
The score line failed to deter Burnham who showed resilience, breaking from Y&S’s defence once again to put the score level at half time at 3-3.
With everything to play for in the second half, both teams came out fighting hard but it was Y&S to take the lead for the third time in the match with a goal from Melanie Bredow to make it 4-3. But once again, this was short-lived after another break by Burnham brought the match level once again at 4-4.
Despite the threat from Burnham on the break, Yeovil continued their offensive and with only 5 minutes left in the game, Libby Cheleda found the net to win the game for Y&S 5-4.
Special mention goes to Ella Wright who was awarded Players’ Player again.
