In Yeovil & Sherborne Ladies 3rd XI’s first game back following the Christmas break they took on Bournemouth Ladies 3rds at the Gryphon School. Y&S started confidently but were put under pressure by the visiting forwards. However, sweeper Jo Stevenson and her fellow defenders Pip Dawe, Emma Charlton and Kerry Mullen worked tirelessly to distribute the ball back to the Y&S attack and kept a clean sheet up until half-time.
Y&S conceded the goal just after the break but in true 3’s style they battled relentlessly winning a series of short-corners. These finally brought them the reward they deserved when skipper Su Johnson scored from a beautifully passed short-corner. Y&S kept up the pressure and were unlucky on several occasions not to increase the score. Bournemouth too were after the points and keeper Jane Clifton made a fantastic aerial save to prevent Bournemouth from taking the extra points.
Players’ player went to Charlton.
