Yeovil & Sherborne C XI took on promotion seeking Isca D in both sides’ second game of the weekend.
Despite their advantage in the league positions, Isca surprisingly did little to threaten the Y&S goal and it was the home team who looked dangerous. After having a couple of early chances, Y&S took the lead when Steve Fudge’s well taken shot was deflected into the goal. The lead did not last long and some hesitation in the home defence allowed Isca in for the equaliser.
With both teams pushing to win the game, the second half was end-to-end with some good passing play from both sides. It was Isca who took the lead after having a succession of short-corners. The Y&S heads did not drop and they pushed forward for the equaliser but the couple of short-corners they had of their own did not come to much. The equaliser came when Rich McDermid’s excellent pass found Kern Vickers in the D and he pushed the ball past the Isca keeper. With Matt Chandler and Fudge playing well in the centre of midfield, Y&S put pressure on the Exeter side. Some great play from Ashley Glover and Lewis Rees found skipper Jon Stride unmarked in the D to put Y&S back in the lead with a well taken shot. However, the dream result was not to be and some more defensive errors allowed Isca into the D to level the scores with one minute to go.
Although disappointed with the draw, the weekend finished with some much needed four points from six for the Y&S side.
