2011 TAUNTON VALE SUMMER LEAGUE – DETAILS, FIXTURES and RESULTS

YSHC has entered a Men’s team in the 2011 Taunton Vale Summer League which begins on Monday, 16th May 2011. (Please note that this is a week earlier than usual.)

YSHC’s first match is on Wednesday, 18th May 2011 at 8pm

All matches are played at Taunton Vale’s home ground (Gipsy Lane, Staplegrove, Taunton, Somerset TA2 6LP) and matches start at either 6:30pm or 8pm. The full fixture list can be found by clicking on this link

The tournament is played on a league basis initially with the top 4 teams then progressing to semi-finals and a final during the first week of July. Changing facilities will be available and the bar will be open each night from 7pm to 10/10.15pm where on certain nights various Sky Sports live events will be shown.

The first named team is to provide match balls, the second named team to be prepared to change in the event of a colour clash and both teams have to provide a level 1 umpire.

To cover the tournament and game charges, YSHC match fees will initially be set at £4 for Senior players, £2 for Junior/Full-time Students and half these figures for goal-keepers using and maintaining their own kit. Any player who both plays and umpires a half in the same game will be exempt the match fee. As with the winter league, match fees are payable on the day of the match so please come prepared.

There are 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw and the top 4 teams will go through to semi-finals.

1st v 4th play in Semi-final 1 on Monday 19th July at 6.30.
2nd v 3rd play in Semi-final 2 on Tuesday 20th July at 6.30.

Final is on Friday 23rd July at 6.30.

The final league game against Minehead was a make-or-break, winner-takes-all match with the victor progressing through to the knock-out stage. Unfortunately, the loss meant that YSHC finished 5th overall in the league and were thus unsuccessful in defending their title. Better luck next year.

Yeovil & Sherborne Men Win Taunton Summer League 2009

Taunton Vale C 4 Yeovil & Sherborne 5

After a nail-biting semi-final win on penalty strokes against Taunton Vale A, Yeovil & Sherborne came up against Taunton Vale C in the final of the Taunton Summer League. Y&S got off to a bright start with some good passing and movement before Dave Allen got on the end of a pass within the D with a committed dive to score the first goal. A Simon Eimar strike from a short corner gave Yeovil a 2-0 advantage but they then allowed Taunton Vale too much space and possession which the hosts took advantage of to draw level at 2-2. With half-time approaching, Ed Matts put Yeovil ahead after some great Yeovil passing and Y&S increased their advantage early in the second half with Eimar scoring his second goal. The Yeovil defence had their work cut out but resisted Taunton Vales’s attacks until late in the game when Vale scored two quick goals to set up a tense finish. Matt Ringrow, Eimar and Matts combined well, however, to leave Matts with a tap-in for Yeovil’s winning goal with a few minutes left.

The squad has grown in confidence during this Summer League campaign and finished playing some excellent hockey which culminated in Y&S being presented with the trophy for the first time. Ed Matts was deservedly awarded Man-of-the-Match for a tremendous performance. Please see the Photo Gallery for more pictures.
