A mixture of Ladies 1s and 2s had a nice early start to Burnham on Sea on Saturday in their first encounter as part of the Somerset Cup competition for the 2017-18 season.  A bright start to the match with Yeovil and Sherborne hard pressing straight from the off, their intensity high and looking for the breakthrough, however it took a good 10 minutes before it was Wendy Butcher who saw an opening at the top of the attacking circle and fired home, wrong footing the keeper.  That opening seemed to start a flow of goals that came relatively thick and fast, firstly Georgie Belt turned provider for Nikki Carpenter on the left post who ensured that the ball was going to cross the line before Belt was then on hand as a baseline cross was placed beautifully into her path to fire home at close range.  This  before she then got her second of the half from a top of the circle shot to give Y&S a comfortable and cruising 4-0 lead going into the half time whistle.
The second half was much of the same although Burnham did look a little less shell shocked and found themselves with opportunities in the Yeovil circle which the defence and especially keeper Becky Frater, dealt with admirably.  Georgie Belt got her hattrick with an exceptionally well taken penalty flick, before Nikki Carpenter sealed the victory, emphatically again from close range to give the visitors a 6-0 win.  A great performance with everyone playing their part and Y&S look forward to the next round.
