Umpiring at YSHC

Fair and consistent application of the Rules of Hockey by competent, confident umpires can make the difference between enjoying the sport of hockey, or not.

Club Umpiring Officer

Umpiring at Yeovil & Sherborne Hockey Club is managed by the Umpiring Officer (see Club Contacts) whose role is to: appoint Club umpires to home matches when neutral umpires are not appointed by the region or county hockey umpiring association; liaise with the region and county over the appointment of neutral umpires; arrange and advertise umpiring courses; and encourage and manage the development and progress of Club umpires.

Umpire Appointments

Allocated umpires are shown on the Umpire Appointments pages (under Umpiring Appointments):  Neutral umpires appointed by West Hockey Umpires are indicated by (W) after their name, and likewise by (C) for Somerset County Hockey Umpires appointments.  If a visiting team is providing the umpire, the club’s name will be in brackets.

Club Umpire Availability

All Club Umpires are requested to keep the Umpiring Officer appraised (by e-mail, text or ‘phone) of their availability to umpire.

FIH Umpire Briefing

The current FIH Umpire Briefing can be found at 2017 FIH Umpire Briefing.  While somewhat dated and aimed at FIH umpires preparing for international competitions, much of the content and guidance is relevant to umpiring matches at any level.
