Yeovil & Sherborne Hockey Club is fortunate to have an established cadre of qualified Head and Lead  Coaches supported by an enthusiastic group Coaches and Assistants totalling some 22 members, players and parents:

Head Coaches: Qualified at UKCC Hockey Level 2/EH Sessional Coach OR higher.

Lead Coaches: Qualified at UKCC Hockey Level 2/EH Sessional Coach.

Coaches: Qualified at UKCC Hockey Level 1/EH Introduction to Hockey Coaching.

Assistants: No qualifications or working towards gaining qualifications.

Our two head coaches managing the coaching strategy and organising the training programme for the senior and junior sections respectively.  The Head and Lead coaches act as the lead for each senior team or junior age/gender group overseeing the coaching programme for that particular team or group.  Coaching sessions are then delivered by them supported by other Coaches and Assistants.

New Coaches.  Even with such a large team the Club is always looking for new coaches, whether direct recruits, or existing members who gain the necessary experience and qualifications .  The Club’s policy is to reimburse any costs incurred by members who qualify as a coach.  Information on the various coaching levels and qualifications, and routes to qualification, are shown on another webpage at Coaching Pathway.  However, to get started it is not necessary to first do any courses or training:  The best starting point is to just volunteer to come and help the coaches at one of the training sessions.  We welcome any offers of support from members, players and parents to help out, particularly at junior training to assist the coaches in managing the activities.  This does not need to be a regular commitment, and every encouragement to attend training courses will be given.

Safeguarding.  All coaches are DBS checked and undertake safeguarding and first aid training including:

UK Coaching – Safeguarding & Protecting Children – all Head and Lead Coaches.

EH Safeguarding Awareness – all other Coaches and Assistants.

EH Inclusion & Diversity – all coaches.
