Junior Hockey

The Junior Section of Yeovil & Sherborne Hockey Club has been established to provide the best hockey coaching available to excite children about the game, to inspire their passion and to ensure success at all levels. We welcome all children from the ages of 7-14 regardless of their experience and ability. We will provide opportunities for all of them to reach their potential and enjoy the benefits that this team sport offers in terms of tactical, technical and fitness related skills specific to hockey and general recreational fun.

Note:  As young people over-14 are permitted to play adult hockey they are classed as Senior (Students) and attend senior training and play in the senior teams.  Additionally, they may train and play in U16 and U18 squads/teams, as part of the senior rather than the junior section.

Dedicated to excellence, the Club aspires to ensuring that junior hockey in Yeovil, Sherborne and the surrounding district ‘being the best it can be’.

Objectives

  • To accelerate children’s technical, tactical and fitness skills in hockey.
  • To provide schools with additional accelerated training for their athletes.
  • To create and support playing opportunities for all ages and levels, from introductory to elite, as a way to grow participation and excellence in the sport.
  • To provide volunteers and coaches with a training pathway with the purpose of developing or complementing their current skills.
